So, at the center of life’s daily race and bustle, “Stillness and Me-Time” is about letting go—surrendering and taking a little more time for you!

Why is this necessary?

Stillness equips us to better manage stress. While short-term stress can be beneficial, studies have shown that extended exposure to stress can have an adverse effect on our immune system and well-being.

Essentially, the more balance we seek in our lives, is the less likely we are to be negatively affected by stress.

 And the support of both meditation and self-care can help to create this alignment.

When it comes to Meditation, the word meditate means “to engage in contemplation or reflection.” Additionally, hagah, the Hebrew word for meditate also translates to words like murmur, ponder, speak, imagine and study.

Meditation provides physiological benefits, as well as benefits to the mind that improve the way we function in our everyday lives. And making scripture the foundation of our meditation practice, yields many advantages:

  • God’s Word is like food (1 Peter 2:2-5)—it feeds and sustains us. 
  • His Word also molds us from the inside-out (2 Timothy 3:16-17); and even the Holy Spirit has the power to transform us (2 Corinthians 3:18). 
  • Additionally, Jesus told us that His Word liberates the believer (John 8:31-32). 

Still, God’s Word is capable of so much more…

 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. – Psalm 119:105

But then, let’s not forget about self-care…

Generally, as far as self-care is concerned, it also contributes tremendously to one’s welfare. This me-time is basically your moment to reconnect and recharge; it can also be tailored to your interests and actually doesn’t require as much time and effort as one would think. However, the main advantage of regular self-care is that it supports work-life balance—a balance that in turn tends to also benefit the other people in your life.

And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. – Mark 6:31
